WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Storytelling is one of the most valuable, easiest, and pleasurable activities you can expose children to is storytelling.

Goal: The workshop participant will gain a wide knowledge of the techniques, types of stories and the "how to" of successful storytelling.

The workshop will cover the three important aspects of successful storytelling:

  • Techniques in telling a successful story
    Participants will learn the importance of body language and voice inflection to make a story come to life
  • Types of stories to tell
    Participants will learn the types of stories which lend themselves best to storytelling
  • Props used in telling stories
    Participants will learn the various ways in which a story can be told. These include flannel board, hand puppets, stick puppets, object talks, creative dramatics, sound, cut mask and draw stories.

Handouts:
• A puppet backdrop pattern which can be made and adapted to use in the classroom
• A list of reference books with suggested methods to use in storytelling
• A list of stories with adaptations to other forms of media
