LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

STORYTIME provides children with important learning opportunities:
• To participate with hands on activities which teach the concepts and skills
currently being assessed in the NJ State Standards
• Participate in small and large group storytelling
• Promote new vocabulary
• Increase fluency and flexibility in self-expression
• Hear stories which aid in comprehending book language
• Increase listening skills
• Create an emotional and intellectual response to stories

CHILD PARTICIPATION:
Children become part of the show as picture books come to life in one of two ways:

• Children become part of the story as a character.
• Children learn a portion of the story and then say that portion from their seats.

MUSIC:
Music is an integral part of each show. Children learn songs as well as listen to stories which incorporate catchy songs. Children learn this music quickly and have a chance to sing along.

STORIES ARE PRESENTED IN MANY WAYS:
These include hand, stick and life-size puppets, flannel board stories, creative dramatics and mask stories, draw-and-cut stories, songs and finger plays, as well as picture books. A variety of familiar fairy tales can be incorporated into each STORYTIME session, including Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears, The Three little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, and Little Red Hen. Not as familiar, The Gunniwolf will soon become one of your child's favorite stories.

A variety of seasonal and age-appropriate stories will be told during a STORYTIME session, and can also include holidays if desired.

Holiday themes include Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Passover.

Puppet Backdrop – Children have an opportunity to work the puppets as individual puppeteers!
